Rural Lincs residents to receive long awaited gas supplies
July 9th, 2009 by Colin

A rural community is set to receive long-awaited gas supplies to its homes following a ground-breaking partnership scheme.

North Lincolnshire Homes and Community Energy Solutions (CES) have worked together to help bring together all the necessary elements to extend the main gas supply into the area of Overton Court in Barton upon Humber.

In all, 57 homes look set to benefit from the scheme; homes that have previously had to rely on expensive outdated, and environmentally-unfriendly fuel sources such as electric underfloor heating and storage heaters which are difficult to control.  Preparation groundwork has already started, and it is expected the work should finish before the end of the summer.

New Wortley gas connection plans given green light
July 9th, 2009 by Colin

Plans to install long-awaited gas supplies into a West Yorkshire housing estate have been given the official thumbs up.

New Wortley in Leeds is the first area that will benefit from the partnership between Northern Gas Networks, West North West Homes Leeds (WNWHL) and Leeds-based community interest group Community Energy Solutions (CES). However, thousands more homes could also benefit now contracts have been signed.

The partnership between the three organisations will hopefully see up to 380 homes in New Wortley enjoying gas-fuelled heating and hot water systems before the winter. Work on extending the gas mains into the estate are now planned to commence on July 13th.

Many of the homes in New Wortley are managed by WNWHL and these will initially enjoy free gas connections. At the same time, CES will also provide ‘whole house’ energy efficiency measures, free benefits advice and energy efficiency advice for private and social properties. CES is a non-profit
distributing organisation set up with core funding from Yorkshire Forward and the Government’s Department for Energy and Climate Change.

North East energy group appoints senior MP as Chairman
July 9th, 2009 by Christian

A North East based community interest organisation has pulled off what it describes as a ‘major coup’ by appointing one of the Government’s most senior figures as its chair of the board.

The Rt Hon Hilary Armstrong MP, Member of Parliament for North West Durham, is the new chair of Boldon-based Community Energy Solutions (CES), a non-profit distributing organisation which oversees the implementation of a number of gas mains extensions and other renewable energy programmes in communities across the North of England, including many in the North East.

CES, partly funded by One North East in this region, is now working under a new remit and will focus its attentions on promoting micro-renewable options in both the ‘able-to-pay’ and social housing sector in the North East. This means offering advice and help to those who want to reduce their carbon footprint by installing eco-friendly technologies such as wood burning stoves or individual air source heat pumps.

European eye on North East’s renewable energy efforts
July 9th, 2009 by Colin

North East-based Community Energy Solutions (CES) will become the focus of Europe today (Wed 13th) to see how it is successfully tackling the issue of providing renewable home heating solutions to off-gas communities.

MEP for North East England, Fiona Hall, who sits on European Parliament’s Industry Research and Energy Committee, will be showing Environment committee member and Danish MEP Johannes Lebech around a range of successful projects CES has completed in the region.

The whistle-stop tour of the region will take in projects in North Blyth, Gateshead, Derwentside and Middleton-in-Teesdale. They are all ambitious schemes that have been completed or are currently underway, where CES has been able to pull together the relevant technical and financial assistance to help those living off the gas mains supply and in so-called fuel poverty.
